A Brilliant Addition to the Blogroll

I’ve been reading Aretae for several months, but I usually reach his blog via Borepatch.

Imagine my surprise when I noticed that he linked to my little blog (I do realize that I need to post more frequently).

So it is long past time that I add this thought provoking blog to my sidebar.

Busy Weekend

So we loaded up the family truckster bright and early on Saturday for a drive to Cincinnati.  No, we weren’t going to King’s Island.  We were going to Jungle Jim’s.

If you haven’t been here, picture a grocery store about twice the size of a Sam’s Club or Costco with food items from all over the world.

Want Coco-Cola from Mexico?  How about Europe?  They got both.

Huge selection of cheese, honey, fruit, candy. (Note to FTC:  I am just a fan and receive no compensation in exchange for this – or any – post).

Biggest problem was that we didn’t lay sufficient ground rules before turning the girls loose.  We filled 3 shopping carts for the four of us.  Candy from Asia, sauce mixes from Africa, soft drinks from India and much more.  We spent about double what I had planned and I didn’t even buy any of their Prime grade ribeyes.

After three hours (yes, 3 hours at a grocery store), we headed out for lunch here:

Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen

Where they serve food like Mississippi Catfish Opelousas (my choice for lunch):

Yummmmmmmmmmmmm

Before heading back to Indy, we stopped by Ikea for a couple of hours:

And finally dragged our tired cabooses home around 10:00 pm.

So, how was your weekend?

Update on lack of posts

Sorry for the lack of posts lately.

My dad’s been in the hospital and things have been kind of hectic for the last couple of weeks.  He’s home now and recovering nicely. Everything’s finally starting to settle down a bit.

I did see the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie and it is the best of the Pirate sequels.

I also took the family to see X-Men:  First Class and we all enjoyed it.

I’ll try to post full reviews later.

This is Science?

Conservative moralizers?

Crusading American housewives?

Moral crusade?  Tirades?  Ultraconservatives? Christian fundamentalists?  Rally troops to fight the last battle on the Mound of Venus?

All of those terms come from the first four paragraphs of a two page “Science” article at Der Spiegel titled Is There Such a Thing as Sex Addiction?  via Instapundit.

The author goes on to refer to anti-sex crusaders, guardians of morality, prudish adversaries, hardliners, their congregations, and refer to proponents of the theory of sex addiction as apologists.  He also refers to Alfred Kinsey (“still free of moral preconceptions”) for statistics on US sexuality, though Kinsey gathered his data primarily from prison populations.

When finally quoting a proponent on the theory of sex addiction, a psychiatrist at Harvard Medical School, the author acknowledges his “seemingly scientific precision” and notes with relief that the expert “does, at least, add the following caveat” that such behavior is only pathological if it contains an element of personal distress.

Damn it, Jim!  I’m an engineer, not a psychologist!

However, if this article is to be taken something other than bigoted opinion, the only rational conclusion is that there is no such thing as psychological addition.  After all, do you really think you can convince someone that sex is not addictive, but gambling or World Of Warcraft are?  If so, I pity your sex life.

Considering the tone and terminology used by the author, I conclude that psychological addiction is a real possibility for sex as well as gambling, and that the author is merely using the theory of sex addiction to swing a cudgel at Americans in general and religious believers specifically.

Been Busy

Sorry I haven’t posted for awhile.

Works been pretty busy.

My eldest just had a birthday.

uh … this came out:

Yes, I finished the single player mode.  My youngest is helping me with the Cooperative mode.  And according to my 15 year old daughter’s friend, a dad that plays Portal is just too cool!

And last, but not least:

Just finished it a few minutes ago.  Excellent!

Now I need my beauty sleep.

G’night.

It’s Been A While Since My Last Post

I’ve been pretty un-busy.

Got back from the old family vacation on Sunday and have been playing catch up.

It was worth it.

Screw Wally World, Clark.  Next time, take a cruise.
