In Kind Contributions

June 28, 2011 at 11:42 am

It seems as though we’re always hearing about rockstars like Springsteen, Heart, Tom Petty and others getting offended when mean old republicans use their big hits in their campaigns and it always makes for big headlines until the republicans stop.  However these same rockstars of yesteryear never seem bothered when democrats use their catchy tunes.
Why isn’t this considered an “in kind” contribution to the democrats?
They are certainly quick to use copyright law to protect the financial value of these songs, so they can’t argue that their use in a political campaign isn’t valuable.
Same thing should apply when an actor makes an ad or even an appearance at a fundraiser.
Why isn’t this considered an “in kind” contribution to the democrats?
Somebody call the IRS.
